What is Alpha-Stim Therapy?
Alpha-Stim Therapy is a medical treatment via a small, hand held device that can relieve symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain.
The Alpha-Stim device transmits a microcurrent at the site of application (often on the ear lobes). This microcurrent modulates activity in the central nervous system, influencing cells in the brainstem and facilitating alpha waves.
When the Alpha-Stim device is used for pain, electrodes are placed at the site of pain on the body where a microcurrent is transmitted which modulates nerve cell signaling and reduces the perception of pain.
How does the Alpha-Stim device work?

A practitioner at Northwest Health Specialties will train you on the use of the Alpha-Stim device during your naturopathic medical or acupuncture appointment. Training will give you a chance to feel the sensation of the Alpha-Stim device and to become familiar functions of the device. If you decide to pursue ongoing treatment with Alpha-Stim, you may rent or purchase the device from the clinic for regular at-home use.
Generally, the Alpha-Stim device is recommended to be used for treatment sessions of 20 to 60 minutes.
Patients sometimes find benefit from a single Alpha-Stim treatment, however regular treatments over a period of 3-8 (or more) weeks are often needed for maximum benefit from the Alpha Stim device.
You may notice some benefit from Alpha-Stim after your first treatment, however treatments are cumulative and maximum benefit generally occurs after regular treatment for several weeks.
With the Alpha-Stim device you may feel a light tingling sensation from the current flow. There should never be any pain, and your practitioner can assist you in finding modifications to alleviate any potential discomfort that arises. Alpha-Stim devices rent out for $87/month on contract. It is rent–to–own with the CES unit being paid off after just over 8 months, and the MET unit being paid off after 1 year.
