Neural Therapy

Healing chronic pain and illness

What is Neural Therapy?

Neural Therapy is a healing method that has been used in Germany since the early 1900's. Neural therapy involves the injection of a local anesthetic such as procaine into scars, trigger points, acupuncture points, tendon and ligament insertions peripheral nerves and other tissues to treat chronic pain and illness.

How does Neural Therapy work?

Neural Therapy treats dysfunctions of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The autonomic nervous system is connected to every cell in the body and controls autonomic functions of our body such as breathing, digestion, immune function, hormone production and circulation.

Scar tissue, injury, disease, and stress disrupt the ANS and create disturbances in the function of cells called interference fields. Cells in these interference fields have an abnormal electrical charge. Injection of a local anesthetic is thought to help re-establish the resting potential of the cells. This improves cellular function, restores the cells' ability to heal, and reduces pain.

It can be thought of as a reset button that helps restore the healing capacity of damaged cells.

Neural Therapy FAQ

You may develop some bruising at the injection site. You will experience numbness at the injection site for 20-30 minutes. You may experience a sense of euphoria or lightheadedness for 15-20 minutes directly after the treatment as your body is processing the procaine. You may have an emotional release during or after the treatment. It is common to feel fatigued following the treatment until the next day.

Neural therapy is contraindicated in patients with allergies to procaine. Procaine is a common anesthetic used in dental offices so most people are aware of any allergies. For this reason, during your first session, we will only use a small amount of procaine and keep you at the office for the next 20 minutes to make sure you tolerate it.
